In 2023, the Brazoria County District Courts and County Courts at Law (the “Brazoria County Courts”) made a determination of need to appoint a full-time Spanish language court interpreter to carry out court functions.
The Brazoria County Courts requested that Commissioners Court approve the appointment of a full-time Spanish language court interpreter to be designated by the Brazoria County Courts pursuant to Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code §21.022 (“Section 21.022”).
In accordance with Section §21.022, Commissioners Court approved the appointment of the court interpreter designated by the Brazoria County Courts. The Brazoria County Courts designated the court interpreter position in accordance with the job description and duties as approved by the Brazoria County Courts.
The Brazoria County Courts now wish to modify the appointment of the Brazoria County Courts’ designated court interpreter such that the designated court interpreter is appointed by Brazoria County Court at Law Number 3 and Probate Court (“County Court at Law Number 3”) pursuant to Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code §21.031 (“Section 21.031”).
On August 25, 2026, Judge Jeremy E. Warren, County Court at Law Number 3, entered an “Order Appointing Court Interpreter Pursuant to Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code §21.031.” A copy of this Order is attached hereto as Exhibit “1.” The Order appoints Suzette Santana, the Brazoria County Courts’ designated court interpreter, as court interpreter for County Court at Law Number 3. The Order further requests that all job duties of the court interpreter remain the same, including that the court interpreter continue to serve all Brazoria County Courts.
In accordance with Section §21.031, the Court hereby prescribes the duties of the court interpreter appointed by County Court at Law Number 3 in the Job Description attached hereto as Exhibit “2.” The essential job duties of the court interpreter position are not modified by this Order. In addition, the pay grade and step of the court interpreter position is not modified by this Order.
A copy of this order is to be delivered to the Human Resource Director and the County Auditor.
