Resolution - Sheriff Immigration Law Enforcement Grant Program Senate Bill 8

Approve the attached Resolution permitting the Sheriff’s Office to apply for the Sheriff Immigration Law Enforcement Grant for the Fiscal Years 2026 and 2027 made available through Senate Bill 8.  This Bill establishes a grant program supporting the sheriffs who have entered into certain kinds of immigration law enforcement agreements with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement described by Government Code Section §753.051.

 

If agreement is approved and awarded the grant funds may be spent over a two-year period on the following:

 

                     compensation for persons performing duties

                     generating and delivering reports, including administrative duties

                     equipment and related services for peace officers and other, including the cost of repairing and replacing equipment required, but not provided

                     attendance by a person at any training or other event

                     costs to the county for confining inmates under the authority granted by this agreement

                     other expenses associated with participating in the grant agreement as determined by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

 

Further, the Brazoria County Commissioners Court designates The Brazoria County Auditor as the grantee’s financial officer. The financial officer is given the power to submit financial and/or programmatic reports or alter a grant on behalf of the applicant agency.

 

Further, the County Judge is hereby authorized to act as Brazoria County's Authorized Official and sign any documentation related to the application for the Grant upon review by the District Attorney's Office.
