Brazoria County Fire Code - Local Amendments

The Court hereby adopts the following Local Amendments to the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC), effective March 10, 2026.
1. Fire access roads shall be concrete or asphalt for all developments greater than five (5) acres.
2. Fire access roads for all developments greater than ten (10) acres shall have two (2) access points no closer than one half (1/2) the diagonal distance of the development measured at the longest distance. If the second access point is obstructed by an adjacent property with no access, the second access point should be remotely located and approved by the County Fire Marshal.
3. Parking shall be designated to ensure fire access is not obstructed.
4. Structures over 12,000 square feet or developments over ten (10) acres require a ground water storage tank for fire suppression when fire hydrants are not available and sprinkler systems are not installed.
All variance requests related to these Local Amendments shall be submitted to the Brazoria County Commissioners Court for review.
A certified copy of this Order shall be provided to the Fire Marshal.
